Casa OVV
Casa OVV is a family residence with two floors on a relatively narrow plot of ca. 850 m2 on the south west coast of Madeira Island. The architectural concept is developed mainly to enjoy the island’s subtropical lifestyle, offering wide covered outdoor spaces and opening the indoor spaces by sliding glass doors to the pool, garden and the view over the Atlantic Ocean. For the owners, cooking and eating together is an essential part of family and social life, so these spaces are located at the place of the building with the best view and are connected to the outdoor and living room.
The long facades of the house are interrupted by a patio on each side, letting light into the middle of the house and making a glimpse of the sky visible from the inner areas by the stair.
The top floor has three bedrooms, each with an ocean view and each with washbasin, shower and WC. The elements of the bathroom have been taken apart, the washbasin is in the bedroom, only separated by a curtain of vertical wooden profiles, the showers have light from the patio windows and from the bathtub of the master suite you can even get a view of the ocean through the wooden shutter.
Because the sloped terrain is accessed from the top, the garage is also located on the top floor and connected through the central stair.
A large outside stair by the side of the building gives access to the main pedestrian entrance to the lower floor.
The materials are all in warm and soft earth tones and wood, contrasting with the blue of the ocean.
The construction is a reinforced concrete framework, with concrete block walls and an external insulation made of 60 mm cork panels.
